Bulk Gravel and Stone Delivery in Arkansas County, AR

Bulk Gravel and Stone Delivery in Arkansas County, AR

Planning a driveway, a parking pad, a shed floor or a drainage run in Arkansas County, AR? Arkansas Rock Supply delivers gravel, stone and aggregate to the job, and the material that starts most of those builds is SB-2 base.

SB-2 is the dense graded 1 1/2 inch minus crushed stone this part of Arkansas knows by name. It carries its fines, so it locks up under a roller.

The ground it goes on is heavy Delta clay, and that shapes what you order.

Ground Conditions Across Arkansas County

Across the Mississippi Alluvial Plain, the ground is deep alluvial silt loam, silty clay and heavy clay. Locals call it buckshot and gumbo.

It was laid down by big rivers, and it holds water.

Flat ground, a high water table and clay that barely takes water mean rain stands where it falls. Field ditches and bayous drain slowly, and backwater can hold for days.

That standing water is why a base course matters more here than in drier country. Wet clay pumps and ruts under a loaded truck, so the structural layer has to carry the load instead of the soil.

Erosion shows up as sheet wash off bare ground, ditch and bayou bank sloughing, and bank caving along the big rivers. Rip rap and large river rock armor those banks and culvert outlets.

Work runs all year here. Wet winter and spring ground is the real constraint, and the midsummer dry spell that shrinks and cracks the clay is the best window for base work.

Winters are short and mild, and frost is shallow. The clay is wet enough through the winter that a loaded truck will rut a drive deeply with no frost involved at all.

Materials Delivered in Arkansas County

SB-2 base is the standard Arkansas base material: a dense graded 1 1/2 inch minus crushed stone with the fines left in. It goes under driveways, parking pads, shed and building pads and pipe bedding.

When you are working to a written standard, the same material appears as Class 7 base.

Class 7 is the 1 1/2 inch dense grading, and Class 8 is the 1 inch version. Section 302 covers select material used as a foundation course underneath.

Cities and counties write Class 7 into their own street, sidewalk and parking standards.

Washed sizes cover drainage work. #57 limestone handles French drains, foundation and pipe drainage, and a clean top over a compacted base.

3/4 inch clean limestone suits drainage beds, construction entrances and drive surfacing.

Natural Pea Gravel, screenings and mason sand finish the finer end. Screenings bed pavers, flagstone and brick and fill joints.

Mason sand goes into brick, block and stone work, paver joints and play sand.

Soil and decorative material round out an order. Screened topsoil builds lawns and beds, garden soil fills raised beds, fill dirt raises low ground before a base course goes on, and shredded mulch holds moisture through a Delta summer.

Choosing the Right Material

Lonoke County and Jefferson County sit on the same Mississippi Alluvial Plain ground as Arkansas County: deep alluvial silt loam, silty clay and heavy clay, with sandier natural levee ridges and older terraces such as the Grand Prairie. The ground is the same, so the base and drainage choices are the same.

Phillips County spans more than one ground region. Part of it is Mississippi Alluvial Plain and part is Crowley's Ridge.

That difference matters. Crowley's Ridge ground is higher and better drained than Delta clay, so a site there sheds water instead of holding it.

On Delta clay, drainage stone and a base course do the work that well-drained ground does on its own.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about gravel and aggregate delivery in Arkansas County

Do you deliver to Arkansas County?

Yes. Arkansas Rock Supply delivers bulk gravel, stone, sand, soil and mulch across Arkansas County, including Stuttgart, DeWitt, Gillett, St. Charles, Almyra, Humphrey, Casscoe, Crocketts Bluff, Ethel and Tichnor. You order online, choose a quantity by the ton or by the yard, and pick a delivery date at checkout. A dump truck then tips the load in one pile at the delivery address.

What is the difference between crushed stone and Natural Pea Gravel?

Crushed stone is angular and mechanically broken, and the washed sizes carry no fines. Natural Pea Gravel is rounded and washed out of river gravel deposits, and Arkansas yards usually get it in brown or beige. Crushed stone locks up and drains; Natural Pea Gravel stays loose underfoot. That makes Natural Pea Gravel a fit for walkways, play areas and dog runs, and crushed stone a fit for base and drainage work.

Should I order material by the ton or by the yard?

Both work. Quantities are ordered by the ton or by the yard, and each product page has a calculator to size the load. Have your measurements ready before you start. The calculator turns them into a quantity, and you carry that number into checkout. If you are unsure which unit suits your order, the calculator is the place to settle it.
